Productivity Application
$4.99
(Will be purchased for faculty)

App Description:
GoodReader is probably one of the best apps available for the iPad. It is a robust reader that can read almost any type of text file including .PDF, .TXT, .DOC, .DOCX, .PPT, etc. What makes this application so powerful is its ability highlight, add annotations, sticky notes, and drawings. Bookmarks can also be added within the document to note important pages.

Note - insert a text sticky note at the location of the cursor
Highlight - highlight selected text; can highlight with multuple colors
Markup - underline, cross out, insert and replace text
Draw - create lines, arrows, shapes or freehand drawings; write comments

You can mark-up your original document, or you have the option of making a copy so you can keep the original document in its pristine condition.

Documents can be transferred from your laptop to GoodReader through iTunes and organized in GoodReader in folders. A web browser built into the device allows you to download documents from the Internet directly to the app.

I cannot get over the ease of the use of this app. I had a web page assigned as reading for my summer study. I opened that web site on my Mac and printed the web page as a pdf (just go print and in destination choose save as pdf). I then slipped it into my Dropbox. Then, later when I was using GoodReader on my iPad I went to "Connect to Server," where I have my Dropbox connected to GoodReader. I simply downloaded it to my iPad and have it for my next class.

Potential Classroom Uses:
  • Student documents and/or papers can be imported into GoodReader, annotated with teacher notes, and emailed back to the student. A great way to go paperless in your classroom.
  • Students can upload teaching PowerPoints to annotate with notes during classroom lectures.
  • Students can download and organize research documents into folders.
